John was a selfless and loving man; he had the chance to touch many lives and so they grieve with us. With an electric smile and an unforgettable laugh John lived life to the fullest.

We will miss our beloved John, but his memory will carry on in our hearts until we meet with him again.

To keep his memory going we are raising money to memorialize John in a statue that will be donated to Freedom Park . With his passion for his loyal canine partners that went into battle with him, we would like to honor all military working dogs and their handlers.

Current sketch of the planned design for the statue

The city of South Sioux City has named the dog park that is part of Freedom Park in honor of John – the John Douangdara Memorial War Dog Park .

The park is to honor all Military Working Dog Handlers as well as their faithful companions; past, present and future. Fencing for the park will be up next month, May of 2012.

The sculpture is being worked on by the internationally known Susan Bahary. She is the same sculptor who worked on “Always Faithful” - the monument dedicated to 25 Marine dogs on base in Guam .

We appreciate any donations to make this statue happen!
